History of Pueblo

The history of Pueblo dates back to 1842 when the town was better known as Fort Pueblo. During these times early settlers, largely trappers, built their Adobe-style homes next to the Colorado River. Pueblo’s settlers often traded such things as plants and livestock with the local
tribes. Pueblo grew at a rapid rate in 1859 during the Colorado Gold Rush. Over the years, the city developed into a major social and economic center for the state of Colorado.

Mineral Palace Park is also very historic and was the home to the world famous Colorado Mineral Palace which was considered one of the show places of the West in 1890’s. Housing the largest collection of minerals and gems in the world, the Mineral Palace was built as a monument to Colorado’s mineral wealth and industry. Unfortunately the palace is no longer with

Another favorite park among the citizens of Pueblo is Bessemer Park located on Northern Avenue. In this park, you can enjoy such terrific amenities as an immaculate playground, a baseball field, picnic shelters, horseshoe pits and a swimming pool. A beautiful park that is a short drive from the city is Pueblo Mountain Park. This lovely park features such amenities as picnic shelters, barbecue grills, horseshoe pits, wooded walking trails and several meeting rooms available for rent. The serene mountain park is perfect for year round hiking, skiing, stargazing and snowshoeing. Watch out for park hosted events such as guided hikes, camps, yoga retreats and outdoor learning activities.
